  • 5 medium apples, sliced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 3/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 and 1/2 cups salted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups old-fashioned whole rolled oats
  • 1 and 1/2 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 and 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp salted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp heavy cream
  • pinch of fine sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×13 inch pan with nonstick spray and parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix sliced apples with lemon juice, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, melt the butter and combine it with flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt to create the crust mixture.
  4. Press about two-thirds of the crust mixture into the pan. Spread the apple filling evenly on top and sprinkle the remaining crust mixture over it.
  5. Bake for 38 to 45 minutes until golden brown. Let cool before slicing.
  6. Prepare the salted caramel sauce while cooling and drizzle it over the bars before serving.
